JPPI Prodocers’ Mentorship Program
ON-PAM participated as a partner in the Producers’ Mentorship Program organized by JPPI (Jejaring Produser Pertunjukan Indonesia), an Indonesian producers network.
The program overview is as follows.
Participation in the Producers’ Mentorship Program
Based on a survey of producers who have participated in forums organized by the Indonesian Performing Arts Producers Network (JPPI), extra knowledge and skills are required for those wishing to enter the international circuit. To address this, JPPI and MTN Lab organized a capacity-building program for Indonesian performing arts producers currently working on transnational collaborative projects.
Producers play a vital role in performing arts practices, particularly in expanding the production and distribution of developing artistic ideas. This is especially true in transnational collaborations, where the context and practice environment of each party must be clearly articulated and mutually understood.
Offered in the form of a mentorship, this program was open to both emerging and mid-career producers. Focusing on insights and soft skills, this support aimed to strengthen professional development at the international recognition stage, focusing on advancing producing practices and capacities within collaborative processes.
Producing Mentorship: Collaborative Works from Particular Traditions
International engagements take many forms. One approach involves exploring traditions and art forms rooted in the communities of collaborators from different countries. A producer’s role goes beyond ensuring logistical support; they must also be able to adopt tradition as a methodology and a strategic tool for production. This process of borrowing cultural frameworks as a working strategy was applied in this mentorship, focusing specifically on producers working within the context of Japanese traditions.
